North Korea Engages in New Missile Test

The second intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch by Pyongyang occurred this morning. It was fired from Mupyong-ni and it flew about 1,000 kilometers before falling into the waters of the Sea of Japan.

Pyongyang said the test was a success. According to the official KCNA agency, Kim Jong-un attended the test. “The entire American territory is within our reach, anywhere, anytime , ” said the North Korean leader. The missile was an improved version of the Hwasong-14 ICBM; It traveled 998 kilometers in 47 minutes at a maximum altitude of 3,724 meters, according to KCNA.

A Pentagon spokesman said on Friday: We stand ready to defend ourselves and our allies against any attack or provocation. ” US Defense Minister Jim Mattis, who is currently on vacation, described Pyongyang’s first test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on 4 July as “provocation”.

On Friday, Donald Trump denounced the launch as a reckless and dangerous” action. “The United States condemns this test and rejects the regime’s assertions that these tests – and these weapons – ensure the security of North Korea. In reality, they produce the opposite effect, said the American president. By threatening the world , [they] further isolate North Korea, weaken its economy and impoverish its population. ”

Even China, the most faithful ally of Kim Jong-Un’s regime, “urged North Korea to comply with the resolutions and cease to commit actions that may aggravate the situation”, via the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For its part, the European Union condemned Pyongyang’s action on Friday evening as “a flagrant violation of North Korea’s international obligations”, calling on the country to “refrain from further provocations that could increase Regional and global tensions, ” says a statement from European diplomacy.
