Continental Announces Closure of Multiple ContiTech Plants

German automotive supplier Continental has announced the closure of several factories within its ContiTech division, according to a report by “n-tv.” The decision will result in the elimination of 580 jobs, primarily affecting employees at plants in Bad Blankenburg, Stolzenau, and Moers. Additionally, the company is planning to scale down operations at sites in Frohburg, Geithain, Hanover, and Hamburg.

Philip Nelles, head of ContiTech, described the restructuring as “necessary to position the company economically.” He emphasized that these measures are a response to declining demand in the automotive sector and the lignite mining industry.

Strategic Shift Toward Industrial Clients

Continental plans to shift its ContiTech division’s focus more toward industrial customers. According to “n-tv,” the company had already announced last year that it would be steering its business away from rubber products and similar components for the automotive sector, instead prioritizing industrial clients. This restructuring aligns with Continental’s broader strategy to adapt to market changes and ensure long-term competitiveness.
